Summary: About a month ago, I received an email request from Christine and Tristan that they’ve been backpacked throughout most part of south east asia countries for the past two months, nothing comes as exotic as the landscape of Angkor Wat and they wanted a photo session here, I couldn’t be more excited as Angkor Wat has always been one of my favourite place for photo shoot destination for clients or travel purposes. In our first meeting at their hotel, they were very outspoken and friendly couple which excites me throughout the entire photo shoot session. I love clients that outspoken, communicates and adventurous to try out suggestions from photographers. I remember there were one moment I’ve suggested to them that it would be nice if they could climb up there’s this one gorgeous looking big tree for a photo, before I could re-confirm with them, Christine has already made her moves climbing up the tree, and so is Tristan. Compare to most of Asian couples I’ve met, not many of them will show enthusiasm if you ask them to climb rocks / trees. I must say we were all very blessed that day with beautiful sunny day and manageable crowds at times of photo shoot. Other than our photo trip, I’m also very grateful they’ve recommended me to see the Phare Circus at Siem Reap. It was just truly an amazing experience. I’m glad to meet Christine and Tristan in this unforgettable photo journey with them and hope to see them again, probably visiting their new home in Boston in near future.

Summary: 10.11.2012 Meet Shairah & Amar Aziz, the most daring couple up to date I’ve ever met. They are experts in skydiving, paragliding, scuba diving…etc. They would jump off the plane at over 10,00 feet high with pleasure and parachute of course. I knew Amar Aziz from one of my photography class and it was an honour when he asked me to shoot his wedding. It was my first experience shooting a Malay wedding and I am grateful to their patience guiding me through the details of a Malay wedding, I’ve learned a lot and fell in love with it : )
Let me share with you what I’ve learned:
Akad Nikah (marriage contract), which is the legal and religious part of the wedding. The groom signs the marriage contract and agrees to provide the bride with a mas kahwin (mahar, literally ‘marriage gold’ in form of money or goods or anything as requested by the bride). The mas khawin is a symbol to show that the men is willing and are prepared to build a family with the lady he chose to get married to.
The couple’s hands are dyed with henna during the berinai besar (great henna-ing) ceremony where the bride’s hair is also trimmed, eyebrows shaped and make-up applied by Mak Andam. Then the bride puts on her tudung (hijab or headscarf) to cover their hair and a selendang, or embroidered and beaded shawl over that. A crown is also placed on top of the shawl and the bride is ready for the Bersanding ceremony.
Bersanding (enthronement) begins with the groom’s march towards the bride’s home with friends, relatives, musicians and people waving bungamanggar (palm blossom). The main part of the bersanding involves the seating of the bridal couple on a dais and sprinkling them with yellow rice and scented water by family members, relatives and guests as a sign of blessing. Each guest will receive a Bunga Telur (egg flower), as a sign of fertility.
The couple are considered royalty for the day, where various royal customs are performed for them, including musicians playing court music a display of pencak silat.
Once again, congratulations to them !

Ever felt the urge to push another wedding photographer into water for fighting over a platform? Just kidding. Yes, it’s the popular floating wooden platform near Pullman Resort Putrajaya (Bottom picture) which can turn into a war zone among wedding photographers especially on the weekends. There’s always this mysterious tensions between the wedding photographers especially when they are strangers to each other. It’s like the walking dead passing by their peers with the undying moan of the damned in deep voice. Well, despite we were being late as schedule due to a International bicycle race in progress, all the roads are closed down around the Putrajaya, we still managed to reach at our destination and we were somewhat blessed as we were the only group at the platform. Don’t ask us how we got there while others failed to show up. I can’t deny the sweetness of a little victory feeling inside me. Anyway, the photo shoot of Yvonne with her love one were further blessed with great weather. In Chinese, it’s called 塞翁失马焉知非福 Misfortune sometimes might be a blessing in disguise : )
How do you turn a shy couple into Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. Set them up for kissing scene and they couldn’t care less of your existence. Well, that’s not entirely true for the case of Chee Meng and his fiancé , they were nice to notice me I’m there, occasionally : )
